Evaluation of ARED, CoDel and PIE

چکیده
In this paper we compare the three Active Queue Managements (AQMs) Adaptive Random Early Detection (ARED), Controlled Delay (CoDel) and Proportional Integral controller Enhanced (PIE) in static as well as dynamic scenarios. We find significant issues when these algorithms are used for big Round Trip Times (RTTs) as well as a significant utilization decrease when used for high bandwidth links. When used for low and medium sized links, CoDel, PIE and ARED are suitable alike, but for corner scenarios clear recommendations can be given.

Improving PIE's performance over high-delay paths
Bufferbloat is excessive latency due to overprovisioned network buffers. PIE and CoDel are two recently proposed Active Queue Management (AQM) algorithms, designed to tackle bufferbloat by lowering the queuing delay without degrading the bottleneck utilization. PIE uses a proportional integral controller to maintain the average queuing delay at a desired level; however, large Round Trip Times (...
متن کاملControlling Queuing Delays for Real-Time Communication: The Interplay of E2E and AQM Algorithms
Real-time media communication requires not only congestion control, but also minimization of queuing delays to provide interactivity. In this work we consider the case of real-time communication between web browsers (WebRTC) and we focus on the interplay of an end-to-end delay-based congestion control algorithm, i.e. the Google congestion control (GCC), with two delay-based AQM algorithms, name...
متن کاملHard Limit CoDel: An Extension of the CoDel Algorithm
The CoDel algorithm has been a significant advance in the field of AQM. However, it does not provide bounded delay. Rather than allowing bursts of traffic, we argue that a hard limit is necessary especially at the edge of the Internet where a single flow can congest a link. Thus in this paper we proposed an extension of the CoDel algorithm called “hard limit CoDel”, which is fairly simple but e...
متن کاملComputational Prediction of Muscle Moments During ARED Squat Exercise on the International Space Station.
Prevention of muscle atrophy caused by reduced mechanical loading in microgravity conditions remains a challenge for long-duration spaceflight. To combat leg muscle atrophy, astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) often perform squat exercise using the Advanced Resistive Exercise Device (ARED). While the ARED is effective at building muscle strength and volume on Earth, NASA researc...
متن کاملOptimization of Video Streaming through Bufferbloat Mitigation using Hybrid FQ-CoDel Algorithm
The major traffic in today’s internet is entirely filled with video data with increased use of Video on-Demand systems. Quality Of internet video has a great impact on user engagement. Video encoding and streaming over wireless networks become a big concern. Real time video service requires low end-to-end delay and the major concern is to reduce the queuing delay which has high impact on the vi...
